Soil Investigation

Soil Investigation

Soil Investigation is the process of establishing the type of soil strata at a specific area, by drilling holes into the earth to obtain samples. The samples obtained are then studied and verified by a team of experienced engineers. Soil investigation helps to provide information on soil parameters upon which design of subterranean structures such as piles and retaining walls can be carried out.

Geotechnical Instrumentation

Geotechnical Instrumentation

Construction activities in particular deep excavation, tunneling and pile driving in close proximity to existing structures can cause damage and endanger lives. Hence, it is imperative to conduct continuous monitoring and assessment of the impact of the construction activities on the surroundings.

Field Compaction & Strength Testing

Field Compaction & Strength Testing (with SAC-SINGLAS accreditation)

Nuclear Density Gauge Test
(In accordance with BS 1377: Part 9: 1990, Clause 3)
The Nuclear Density Gauge (NDG) Test is a quick and reliable method for measuring the in-situ density and moisture content of soils in compacted layers. It plays a vital role in verifying compaction quality for earthworks, roads, and foundations. With immediate results for bulk density, moisture content, and dry density, this test provides fast and effective on-site quality control and assurance.

Sand Replacement Test
(In accordance with BS 1377: Part 9: 1990, Clause 2.1)
This method determines the dry density of fine and medium-grained soils by excavating a small hole and measuring its volume with calibrated sand. Ideal for sites where the nuclear density gauge method is not suitable, offering reliable, non-radioactive compaction verification.

In-Situ California Bearing Ratio Test
(In accordance with BS 1377: Part 9: 1990, Clause 4.3)
The In-situ California Bearing Ratio test (in-situ CBR) measures the in-situ load-bearing capacity of subgrade soils by pushing a plunger into the ground. Essential for road pavement design, assessing soil strength to support traffic loadings.

Field Services

Field Services

Field Services is paramount to determining the stability of a structure. Various testing methods such as the static pile load test, plate load test and the Pile Driving Analyzer (PDA) test (Using the patented PDA test frame method) are available. These tests help to determine the stability of a structure, based on ground settlement.

Driven Micropile

Driven Micropile

A type of steel sleeve piling system consisting of high strength steel tubes joined together by a patented polyethylene plastic coat. The driven micropiling system can be used in areas with spatial constraints, such as near existing walls and low ceilings; with a proven track record in conservation projects, as well as in structural underpinning of existing structures. A viable solution for strengthening the foundations of existing structures and making a strong and lasting one for new structures.

Jack-In Pile

Jack-In Pile

A revolutionary type of piling system involving the use of hydraulic pressure to install precast reinforced concrete piles into soil strata. It is also environmentally friendly due to its lack of noise and exhaust produced during the pile installation. The installation process is easy and one of the fastest to use. Coupled with its low cost, the Grip Jack-In-Piling system is versatile in its usage especially in residential areas, given its track record in construction projects involving terrace houses, bungalows and condominiums. Grip Jack-In-Piling is your answer to quick, easy and economical pile installation for your construction needs.

Bored Micropile

Bored Micropile

The bored micropiling system is a common type of piling system, involving drilling a cylindrical shaft into the soil strata and placing grout and steel bar reinforcement into the shaft. The bored micropile can be used in almost all types of soils and can be employed in areas where spatial constraints exist, next to existing walls and low ceilings. The system is also used in structural underpinning, which strengthens existing foundations of structures. The bored micropile system is a tool to use for anyone considering foundation design.

Underpinning Preloading

Underpinning Preloading

Underpinning

Underpinning is a method used to strengthen existing foundations, by the installation of micropiles around a existing foundation and construction of a combined foundation. Underpinning is carried out using the bored and driven micropiling systems.

Preloading

Preloading of piles, an additional procedure done in conjunction with underpinning, involves a patented technique of pumping a fluid into the preloading cell placed on top of the pile. This causes a reduction in the settlement of the pile. This helps to create a more stable foundation for the structure.
